Yet again discovering that my life as a writer and my life as a professor do not always compliment each other.

I haven't been able to write for two days, because of teaching and a board meeting tonight, and I'm beginning to feel aggravated. Restless. Full of rue.

Kanga and little Rue? Big Rue. Really big Rue.

This afternoon of strange word play bought to you by not getting to chapter 5, and by Compass/ESL documents.

How do the rest of you balance writing life and that thing wot you've got to do to make money come in?

I sympathise. I've gone back to my teaching job after the Summer off and I'm finding far less energy available to write with. I suppose I've just had to make myself do it. Perhaps the solution is to take off days from writing during the work week, and make sure that you write loads at the week end. Not that I'm suggesting you don't write Monday to Friday, just maybe take a Wednesday evening off midweek, to recharge yourself. Like normal people do every evening. :)
I had to go to bed today for a nap after work. I never did that once during the holidays. Got to get to bed early tonight.

That thing that makes money come in sadly has to come first. For me, with a daughter in middle school and work outside the home, writing life takes back seat. It's not the answer you're looking for, but it's the honest one.

I write when I can.

teaching and writing complement each other for me. Teaching recharges my writing batteries and gives my writing more passion. Writing gives my teaching more 'passion' and I do feel they 'feed' off of each other.

though I complain about teaching, I think my writing is more 'dynamic' throughout the year. And even though work 'clogs' up my brain, it seems that I need the extra stimulation to think about and work through the writerly stuff.

I like the teaching, I just complain because as we know, there's not enough time in the year. But yeah, I think teaching helps me overall.
