The Plan (that we call the plan!)

There is a story to tell you, but I don't want to tell you the story until the story has an ending, in order to be discreet and complete.
One of the purposes of keeping this journal is to document what writers go through as they submit stories and ideas to the publishing industry: to agents, to editors, to a variety of sources. I would like it to be a transparent record of my progress through those processes, so others might learn what the reality of trying to publish is, for this person, at any rate.
That said, I feel that if you're being looked at by an agent, perhaps it's wisest to keep those details discreet, until you know how things are going to turn out. Or, for those of you who know that an agent asking for chapters is merely Step One, this is me being the cool kid. Or, for those of you who are superstitious, this is me trying not to jinx things. :)
Which I might have done now, by saying too much. :D
At any rate, what does this mean for the old blog? Not a blessed thing, really. I have to finish tightening Substance with the amazing amount of proofreading response I've gotten from my writing group and my legions of internet fans. :) I'll finish that, read the manuscript one more time, and then it will go out to a variety of agents in its turn.
Right after Substance is done, here's the list:
1. Website revamp.
2. Catherine's big list of agents.
3. Submit Substance to agents one by one.
4. Resubmit Mistoreth's Eyes and Junior Vampire Auxiliary to appropriate markets.
5. Rewrite the ending of Sister Night, Sister Moon.
6. Resubmit Sister Night, Sister Moon to appropriate markets.
7. Big data sort to a variety of files.
8. Subscriptions/postings at a variety of writer sites.
9. (Finally!) NEW PROJECT!!!
Of course, the plan is to keep all 4 pieces circulating as much as possible during the rest of it.
If Delirium doesn't want Blood is Thicker than Water, I'll stow it again. It'll be great for a one shot like Delirium or a small press, but some soul searching reveals that I don't have more Aunt Polly books in me at this time, so it isn't a good choice for my brand. We'll put it away for now, and see if it's something we want to revamp at a later time in our career.
FYI, I think I can write 5 Klarion books, and maybe 4 Iowa Faerie Books.
What will the new project be? I have two in the hopper started: Gossamer and Veridian, and The Empty Horizon: A Retelling of the Count of Monte Cristo. My inclination right now is G&V. I also need to think about Dead Girls. I could also begin the Klarion first generation story. Probably it's going to be faeries, though. If you care, you can influence me, or try.
Looks like I have enough in my list until the end of the year, maybe, what with my pesky job and all. I also have a couple of professorial projects, like that World Englishes thing with Iwahara and a Baba Yaga paper revamp too. (Whoops, real life bleed through!)
You can count on me to tell you what's what as things fall through, or come to fruition. Wouldn't we all like Catherine to get a book deal, so the next 7-10 years of her life could be spent with demon binders as a young adult author? Yes? No?
I'll be back, much sooner than last time too.

Date: 2007-09-19 11:58 am (UTC)the more bonbons i get here the mre i' mcraving for the whoel thing. really. i am so glad someoen lured me into the occultand doesn't end up dissapointing with something cheap and thin and eagh. i've readso many blurbs that made me either go 'blah, stupid' or hope the editor mangled the book into a marketable back-cover and the story is more than the outer flaps say.
i hope something falls through.
